Hello and welcome to Debbie’s Path to Health and Well-being.  My journey on relaxation exercises was not an easy route.  I do often became upset at work when the computer didn’t work or I had to correct someone else’s careless errors that I had adopted this way of life and I would forever be stressed and frustrated at work.  Then one morning instead of guzzling cups of coffee and silently suffering through another system’s failure, I went outside and took a walk.  Thus began my path to well-being and health.  I use my morning walk to get rid of any stress I’m experiencing.  It is also a way to get in a fifteen minute aerobic exercise routine.   These 15-minute breaks have become the best coffee-breaks I’ve ever experienced!

  1. Debbie,
I am very much like you when it comes to work and letting things upset me. I sure wish I could find a way to take a coffee break like yours. I am not monitored at work regarding my breaks or how long I am away from my desk, but I am expected to answer my office phone (I have a traveling headset), or my cell phone at anytime of the day. Because of these devices, I can never really completely walk away. This would not be so bad, except I am also on call 24/7, 365 days a year and have been for 16 years. This being one of the reasons I am looking for a career change. I am thinking a career change will constitute a life style change, for the better, also. I have started to jump on my bicycle of 30 or so minutes 2 or 3 days a week before coming to work. It does seem to help get the days started in a positive way.

    Good luck and keep walking!

  2. We should not let work control our lives. One thing I have learned over the years is closing your eyes and taking a deep breath for a minute or two can be very helpful. Getting upset can only make things worse, at times when we are looking for an answer we can find it within that minute or two of meditation or even that 15 minute break. We are bound to encounter a problem or obstacle on a daily basis; we should do our best to not let that dictate how the entire day unfolds. When these obstacles come up, this is usually the time we need find that minute or two for ourselves.
